Body of a Woman who died in the U.S exhumed in Nyeri Due to Bride Price Woes

Mrs Juliet Wachera Gitahi passed away on 2nd of January in Richmond, Virginia. Her body had been repatriated home and has been lying at the Montezuma Mortuary in Nairobi, up until Monday the 20th when her brother, without the consent of her husband, took the body and buried her.

 A source close to the families said Ms Mrs Wachera Gitahi was hurriedly buried on Monday morning by her family in a ceremony that took less than an hour.

It is also claimed her brother demanded Sh1 million from Mr Gitahi as dowry. His fury arose from the fact that Mr Gitahi, who is  purporting to be his sister’s husband did not pay her bride price despite having lived with her for 25 years. That is why he could be allowed to bury her at their his home.

Hardly 24 hours after she was secretly buried by her brother,  her husband, obtained a court order authorizing him to bury her at his home in Murang’a. The body was exhumed on Tuesday evening and is currently lying at  Nyeri Provincial General Hospital mortuary.
