Lupita, Micaela Erlanger (her stylist) & Michelle Dockery
Talk about power couples! In Hollywood, some of the strongest bonds are between the actor and stylist.Behind every star trendsetter is always is an equally fabulous stylist (in her case Micaela Erlanger), the men and women who make the red carpet red hot, and Lupita Nyong’o's stylist was just named one of Hollywood’s most powerful.
The Hollywood Reporter released the names of the most influential stylists in Tinseltown, and landing in the top three on the list is Macaela Erlanger, the woman behind fashion darling and Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o.
The list is an
annual compilation that ranks influential Hollywood stylists based on
factors such as their “their red carpet showing, the awards shows
nominees they have dressed, new styles they’ve innovated, and the
development of their own personal brands.” It also offers up valuable
info on the stylists in detailed bios, a peek at some of their A-list
clients, favorite labels, and shopable looks.
Michelle Dockery of “Downton
Abbey”–Micaela’s first major client–who recommended Lupita seek out
Micaela as a stylist during their time working together on the film
“Non-Stop.” Michelle told Lupita, “When you’re ready, I have the perfect
stylist for you.” And boy, was she right. Micaela first worked with
Lupita for Toronto Film Festival, where she styled her in the white and gold Prada gown
seen here, and as Micaela told The Hollywood Reporter, “The rest is history.”
“It’s been a whirlwind, that’s for sure,” Erlanger, 28, told ABC News. Erlanger oversees every minute detail, from the Ralph Lauren red gown at the Golden Globes to the infamous headband on Oscar night, down to the Clarin’s lip balm which was flying off shelves after Oscar host Ellen’s candid moment throwing it in her “tip hat” for pizza.
“It’s the little touches that a stylist can do that can take an actress from being part of the pack into really standing out," she said.
“I think the moment that really changed the game was her in the red Ralph Lauren gown,” Erlanger explained. “That, to me, really solidified her as an icon, as a star.”
