Daystar University students in Athi River campus have been
suspended for one week after they disrupted learning by going on strike earlier
today.
It is alleged that students were not happy about the change of security
firm on campus. The students closed
the school’s main gate and ensured no one walked in or out of the school
compound. The Daystar University Students Association (DUSA) claimed that the
administration was making decisions (changing of security firm) without
consulting the students’ government.
A notice sent out by the Vice Chancellor, Dr Timothy Wachira
alleged that the students went ahead with the strike, disrupting the learning
process, despite the school having
consulted with the student body.
The Daystar University senate has since gone ahead and
suspended the DUSA governance at the Athi River campus and the DUSA officials have
all been suspended from the university with immediate effect until further notice.
The Athi River campus has also been closed down for one week
and all students asked to leave the campus immediately. The VC in his ending
remarks has said that the students will be notified on when to resume classes.
Its very sad to see that a highly regarded university like Daystar can reach this point. I guess there is need to review a few things to bring back the Daystar we knew. My prayer is that God will give the Daystar leadership a new direction. Pascal -M- Bukuru
